Financial aid offices can now prepare for the 2021-22 FAFSA verification season with the release of some suggested text last week by the Department of Education.

In a September 25 Electronic Announcement, the Department of Education provided the suggested text that can be used for each on of the required 2021-22 verification items.

Mapping Your Future will be developing the 2021-22 verification forms, including fillable PDFs, for its member schools soon.

In the Announcement, the Department said the use of the suggested text fulfills the regulatory verification requirements, but institutions are not required to use the Department’s suggested text and formats, except for the “Statement of Educational Purpose.”

Institutions must use the exact language provided in the “Statement of Educational Purpose” provided in an appendix along with the Announcement. For the other verification items, schools may develop and use their own text, forms, documents, statements, and certifications that are specific to the items required to be verified for a particular student or group of students.

The Announcement includes a table of the 2021-22 verification tracking groups and FAFSA information required to be verified.
