It's the talk of the town – or what everyone's cackling about – so to speak. Pardon the pun, but making bad jokes is probably the best way to let off some steam when it comes to the price of eggs lately. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry when, on a recent shopping trip, I asked my daughter to get a carton of eggs and she came back and reported to me that the price was nearly $8. Granted, it was 18 eggs but that was one of the cheaper options on the shelves. The news had me rethinking some of my menu plans and, in particular (sorry, Libbie!) the egg I cook every morning for our dog. But if anything, the price justifies my opening the carton to check for any broken eggs before placing it in the cart. Honestly, I've taken eggs for granted. Growing up on a farm, eggs were always in plenty supply and cooking any meals with eggs as the main course is usually easy and inexpensive. And some experts say that is still the case even at current prices. With that in mind, I'll keep the sunny side up and not tell any more bad yolks about an eggs-elent food. – By Catherine Mueller
