New guides and assessments to help schools administer financial aid

Despite attempts to simplify financial aid for students and parents, it remains a complex process for those administering it and especially for those who are new to the process.

However, there are resources to help. The Department of Education has announced the availability of the 2022 Federal Student Aid (FSA) New School Guide and the FSA Assessments for the 2021-2022 award year. According to the announcement, the New School Guide assists a school as it begins participating in the federal student aid programs.

The FSA Assessments help explain how a school should administer the FSA programs. Federal Student Aid has coordinated with financial aid professionals to design the FSA Assessments to help schools with compliance and improvement activities. The FSA Assessments contain links to the applicable laws and regulations that underlie policy and operational guidance and are updated each award year.
