Nice advice

It was a nice thing to do.

At the end of a meeting, my boss turned to me and asked, "And, how are you doing?"

He listened as I explained some of the personal challenges I was going through at the time. He responded by telling me that years from now, this time of dealing with all these issues would only be a short part of my life. And with that, he gave me a new perspective – new hope – on a situation that at the time seemed overwhelming.

As this year's graduates, who have been through an overwhelming last two years, go out into the world, I hope the experience of the pandemic will be just a short part of their lives.

I also hope they work for bosses who give them a new perspective on something or some situation when it is needed and that they become the kind of boss that I worked for – the kind who listens to and cares for their employees.

Wouldn't that be nice?
