Schools that haven't yet updated their software they use to exchange data with Federal Student Aid have been given a grace period.

In an April 30 Electronic Announcement, the Department of Education said it will be extending the deadline for schools and federal financial aid partners to upgrade their Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) software. Previously the deadline was June 5, however, the Department has not yet released the new upgrade deadline.

In the Announcement, the Department said it will provide more information about the upgrade and the deadline in a forthcoming Electronic Announcement. The upgrade is necessary to comply with a federal mandate to improve email and web security.

Financial aid professionals with questions about the software upgrade should call SAIG Technical Support at 1-800-330-5947 or send an email to CPSSAIG@ed.gov.
