On August 29, the U.S. Department of Education announced the emergency response contact center was activated due to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Harvey.

The press release states that "the Department of Education's primary role in natural disasters is to assist school districts and institutions of higher education in their recovery efforts." The emergency response contact center can be reached at (888) 348-4082 or HarveyRelief@ed.gov.

Student loan borrowers impacted by the hurricane are encouraged to contact their loan servicer. If the loan servicer's contact information is not available, borrowers may call the Federal Aid Information Center at (800) 433-3243.

Our thoughts are with those affected.
