Helping students

We intuitively know that we are doing good work in financial aid. We are helping students, right? While the results of our work seem clear to us, we have to show a measurable impact of our work to others.

One of the most obvious ways to show that impact is a lower cohort default rate, but that takes time.

Here are some measures that you may want to include in your default management plan:

  1. A before and after counseling measurement: For example, the amount of loan funds requested by students before counseling compared to after counseling.
  2. Scores on counseling exams: For example, students completing Mapping Your Future's Online Counseling must answer all questions correctly. A measure for your plan could be that students show mastery of student loan information.
  3. Engagement measurement: The number of students who respond to outreach messages sent either by your office or your default management software. This shows that your outreach is having an impact and students are reacting to your messages.

Mapping Your Future offers programs through Online Counseling, Membership, and EX$EL to help provide measurements for your default management plan. Contact Mapping Your Future staff for more information at feedback@mappingyourfuture.org or (800) 374-4072.
